A leadership role reporting directly to the Production Director based predominately at our Portadown manufacturing facility. Taking the lead in developing Health, Safety & Environmental strategy and standards, and ensuring that they are embedded within the organisation.

This role involves a strong presence and having the vision of creating a better working practice. You will advise on all aspects of Health, Safety and Environmental Management, ensuring standardisation and adherence to best practice.

The main aspects of the role will be to:

  • To act as the organisation’s lead competent person for Health and Safety as defined by the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
  • Working in collaboration with the wider teams to set the strategic framework for the management of Health, Safety & Wellbeing and Environmental standards, engaging stakeholders across the business to ensure that these standards are understood and embedded.
  • Provide guidance and advice to the Directors to ensure that the organisation complies with statutory obligations and best practice
  • Provide coaching, specialist advice and practical support on all HSE matters to the management teams.
  • Prepare and present KPI’s for the HSE committee
  • Keep up to date with new HSE legislation and best practice developments that affect the organisation, ensuring that when necessary, policies, procedures and processes are appropriately updated
  • Responsible for the producing monthly KPI and management performance report
  • Arrange inductions for new starters
  • Assist in the identification of HSE training needs for employees across the organisation. Develop and deliver this training as required
  • Lead investigations and assist others to investigate incidents / accidents. Ensure the effective management of corrective actions, reporting internally and externally if required. Ensure the effective communication of lessons learned
  • Actively contribute to safeguarding the people we support
  • To complete any other duties and responsibilities when requested, which are commensurate with this role

The Candidate

The successful candidate will be an experienced HSE Practitioner, with a willingness to develop this role. To cover all project requirements, candidates must be willing to commit to travel. Candidates should have worked at a Management level in a health and safety role and have a stable employment history.

Most importantly, the role requires someone with initiative who will take ownership for their work and be able to represent the company's interests in an appropriate way.

Essential Criteria

  • NEBOSH Certificate
  • Tech.IOSH
  • Internal QMS Auditor
  • 5 years’ experience of working as a HSE Manager level within a manufacturing environment.
  • Significant experience of the implementation of strategic H&S and the enforcement of best practice standards.
  • Previous experience of change management to promote and encourage a culture where HSE is priority
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular Word, Excel and Outlook and has a proven excellent health and safety record.

Desirable Criteria

  • Risk Management Qualification
  • Environmental Management Qualification
  • Experience of the building envelope sector and lean manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of OHSAS 18001
